SHOP.CA AND MLSE MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE FOR HUNDREDS OF KIDS FROM THE PRIORITY GALLOWAY NEIGHBOURHOOD

SHOP.CA and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment came together to give 500 students from Scarborough’s Priority Galloway neighbourhood tickets to last night’s Toronto Raptors game versus Charlotte Bobcats.

(Toronto, ON December 19, 2013) –  SHOP.CA and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment came together to give 500 students from Scarborough’s Priority Galloway neighbourhood tickets to last night’s Toronto Raptors game versus Charlotte Bobcats.

Students from St. Margaret’s Public School and Dr. Marion Hilliard Senior Public School were hosted by SHOP.CA and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment for an exciting sports experience including the chance to see their sports heroes, the Toronto Raptors play live and see Stripes the Raptor Mascot again in his home turf.

As a St. Margaret’s Public School alumnus, Drew Green, CEO and founder of SHOP.CA, the largest ecommerce site in Canada, had big dreams for himself.  “Even as a kid, my family and teachers always encouraged me to do whatever it was that I wanted to do, as long as it was good,” said Green.

On December 11, Green attended a St. Margaret’s assembly with famed NHL and Canadian hockey legend Eric Lindros and Toronto Raptors Mascot, Stripes to encourage students to dream big by setting goals and following their dreams.  This powerful session showed the enthusiastic audience that through hard work, perseverance and a positive attitude, they too can accomplish any goal they dream of.  As a special incentive, Green presented the kids in the Priority Galloway neighbourhood with an invitation for students and families to attend last night’s Raptors game at Air Canada Centre for free.

SHOP.CA is a Canadian company dedicated to making a lasting positive impact in the lives of Canadians and the communities in which they live, work and play.

“We believe in giving back to communities in a positive way and are committed to making SHOP.CA the most engaging and rewarding experience in Canadian retail. We believe we can all make a difference in our communities. This was on my personal wish list this holiday season, it just feels good and it is the right thing to do,” said Green.

“MLSE prides itself in being a strong member of the community.  We always aim to align ourselves with like-minded organizations and we are proud to have SHOP.CA and Drew as part of the family.  With their help we were able to provide these deserving youth the opportunity to come to a game and see first-hand what dreaming big and achieving your goals can become,” said Dave Hopkinson, CCO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

Last night the stadium was electric with the energy, anticipation and excitement of 500 kids from Galloway in Scarborough who were living a dream that might otherwise not have come true. Students from St. Margaret’s Public School and  Dr. Marion Hilliard Senior Public School cheered on their Toronto Raptors throughout the evening.
